Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 3 large russet potatoes
Seasoning
- 2-3 Tbsp olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes: Clean the potatoes thoroughly. Peel them if you prefer skinless fries. Using a french fry cutter fitted with a ¼-inch blade, cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries for uniform cooking.
- Soak the Fries: Place the cut potatoes into a large bowl and cover completely with cold water. Let them soak for 20 minutes to an hour; this step removes excess starch and helps achieve a crispier texture when cooked.
- Dry the Fries: After soaking, drain the water and dry the fries thoroughly using paper towels. Removing moisture is crucial for crispiness in the air fryer.
- Season the Fries: Toss the dried fries with 2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil, then season generously with salt and black pepper to taste, ensuring even coating.
- Arrange in Air Fryer: Spread the fries in a single, even layer at the bottom of the air fryer basket. Avoid stacking or overcrowding to allow hot air circulation for even cooking.
- Cook the Fries: Air fry at 375ºF (190ºC) for 13 to 15 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through cooking to promote even browning and crisping. Cook until fries are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the fries from the air fryer, serve hot, and enjoy your perfectly crispy homemade French fries.
Notes
- Soaking fries in cold water is critical to remove starch and improve crispiness.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary for best results.
- You can adjust seasoning to your preference or add other spices such as paprika or garlic powder for extra flavor.
- Use parchment paper liners made for air fryers to help with cleanup if desired.
- Store leftover fries in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
