Ingredients
Scale
Pickles
- 16 oz bread and butter pickle chips or dill slices
Coating
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
Additional
- Cooking oil spray (for air fryer basket and pickles)
Instructions
- Dry the Pickles: Drain the pickle chips thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the coating stick better and ensures the pickles become crispy when cooked.
- Prepare the Coating Bowls: In one bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, garlic salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. In a second bowl, beat the egg until smooth. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs for the final coating stage.
- Bread the Pickles: Working in small batches, dredge each pickle slice first in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat evenly with panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly so the crumbs adhere well.
- Prepare the Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket or grate with cooking oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the breaded pickle slices in a single layer without overlapping. Lightly spray the tops of the pickles with cooking spray as well to encourage browning. Cook in batches if needed.
- Air Fry the Pickles: Set the air fryer temperature to 385°F (196°C). Air fry the pickles for 5 to 7 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove carefully and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious snack.
Notes
- Ensure pickles are well dried before coating to get maximum crispiness.
- Use panko breadcrumbs for a light, crunchy texture.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, these can also be baked in a conventional oven at 400°F for about 12-15 minutes, turning halfway through.
- Try different dipping sauces like ranch, spicy mayo, or blue cheese dressing for variety.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on air fryer models; keep an eye on the pickles during the last minutes to avoid burning.
