Description

Brazilian Lemonade is a creamy, refreshing beverage made by blending whole lemons with sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and cold water, producing a frothy and tangy drink that’s perfect for hot days. This recipe uses the lemon peel for a citrusy intensity balanced by the sweetness of condensed milk and sugar, creating a unique twist on traditional lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized lemons (preferably fresh and organic)
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1-2 cups ice cubes (or more, depending on preference)
  • Lime wedges or lemon slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lemons: Wash the lemons thoroughly. Cut off the ends of each lemon, then cut each into 8 wedges, using the whole lemon including the peel.
  2. Blend the Ingredients: Place the lemon wedges, cold water, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar into a blender.
  3. Blend: Blend on high speed for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the lemons are completely broken down and the mixture becomes frothy.
  4. Strain (Optional): For a smoother texture, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove pulp and seeds. Skip this if you prefer a pulpy texture.
  5. Add Ice and Blend Again: Add ice cubes to the blender and blend until the ice is crushed and the drink is frothy and cold.
  6. Serve: Pour the Brazilian lemonade into serving glasses, garnish with lime wedges or lemon slices if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using whole lemons, including peel, imparts a slightly bitter taste; ensure organic or unwaxed lemons to avoid pesticides.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar based on your sweetness preference.
  • Straining is optional but recommended for a smoother texture.
  • This drink is best served immediately to enjoy the frothiness and freshness.
  • Fresh lime or lemon slices enhance presentation and can add a little extra citrus aroma.
