Description

Cheesy Bolognese Roll-Ups are a delicious and comforting Italian-inspired dish featuring tender lasagna sheets rolled with a rich Bolognese sauce and a creamy mixture of ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses. Baked to golden bubbly perfection, these roll-ups make a perfect family dinner or a crowd-pleasing meal for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Lasagna Sheets

  • 12 lasagna sheets, cooked al dente

Bolognese Sauce

  • 3 cups Bolognese sauce, rich and meaty

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded (divided)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg, beaten

Seasoning and Garnish

  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and the beaten egg. Season the mixture with salt and pepper, then mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  2. Assemble the Roll-Ups: Lay the cooked lasagna sheets flat on a clean surface. Spread a generous layer of Bolognese sauce evenly over each sheet, then spread the prepared cheese mixture on top of the sauce. Carefully roll up each lasagna sheet into a tight cylinder.
  3. Arrange in Baking Dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom of a baking dish to prevent sticking. Place each roll-up seam side down in the dish. Pour the remaining Bolognese sauce over the roll-ups, then sprinkle with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After this time, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbly and golden brown.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the baked roll-ups. Serve warm, ideally with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal. Enjoy your delicious cheesy Bolognese roll-ups!

Notes

  • Ensure the lasagna sheets are cooked al dente so they hold up well when rolled.
  • You can prepare the Bolognese sauce from scratch or use a high-quality store-bought sauce.
  • The egg in the cheese mixture helps bind the filling for easier rolling and slicing.
  • Covering with foil initially prevents the cheese from browning too quickly or drying out.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
