Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- 1/4 cup water
Cheese and Cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
Additional Ingredients
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 2 large flour tortillas (10-inch)
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned. Drain any excess fat to keep the mixture from being greasy.
- Season the Meat: Add the taco seasoning mix and water to the cooked beef. Stir well and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly before mixing.
- Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, salsa, and chopped green onions. Stir these ingredients together until smooth and well combined.
- Combine Meat and Cheese: Add the cooled taco meat and shredded cheddar cheese to the cream cheese mixture. Stir thoroughly until everything is evenly blended.
- Assemble the Tortilla Rolls: Lay out the flour tortillas flat and spread the taco cheese mixture evenly over each one.
- Roll and Chill: Roll the tortillas up tightly into logs. Wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow them to firm up, making slicing easier.
- Slice and Serve: Remove the rolls from the refrigerator, unwrap, and slice into 1-inch pinwheels. Serve cold or at room temperature for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- These pinwheels are delicious served cold or at room temperature.
- For a spicier version, substitute cheddar cheese with pepper jack cheese or add diced jalapeños to the mixture.
- Make sure to refrigerate the rolled tortillas thoroughly so they hold their shape when sliced.
- You can prepare these a day ahead; keep them tightly wrapped in the fridge to maintain freshness.
