Ingredients
Scale
Hot Dogs and Buns
- 8 beef hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns
Chili and Toppings
- 1 can (15 oz) chili with beans
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup diced onion (optional)
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
Other
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Assemble Hot Dogs: Place each hot dog inside a bun and arrange them tightly in a single layer within the prepared baking dish.
- Add Chili and Condiments: Spoon the chili evenly over the hot dogs, making sure to cover the buns completely. Drizzle the yellow mustard and ketchup (if using) over the chili layer.
- Add Onions and Cheese: Sprinkle the diced onions and shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the chili-covered hot dogs.
- Bake Covered: Loosely cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes to heat through and allow flavors to meld.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly with slight browning.
- Cool and Garnish: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving, then garnish with chopped green onions or parsley if desired for added freshness and color.
Notes
- Swap beef hot dogs for turkey or veggie dogs for a lighter or vegetarian option.
- You can use homemade chili or canned chili; adding jalapeños can add a spicy kick.
- This casserole pairs well with a side salad or crispy fries for a complete meal.
