Description

A flavorful and quick Chinese Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry recipe that combines tender chicken breast with crisp vegetables in a savory sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, this dish is perfect for a healthy weeknight meal served over steamed rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

Proteins & Fats

  • 2 tbsp butter (or sesame oil)
  • 1 lb chicken breast, diced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Vegetables

  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup carrot, julienned
  • 3 cups cabbage, shredded

Seasonings & Sauces

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the Chicken: Heat butter in a large skillet or wok over medium heat to melt and prepare the pan for cooking.
  2. Add Chicken and Spices: Add diced chicken, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the pan.
  3. Cook Chicken: Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked through.
  4. Set Chicken Aside: Remove the cooked chicken from the pan and set aside to prepare the vegetables.
  5. Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add sliced onions, minced garlic, bell pepper slices, and julienned carrots.
  6. Sauté Vegetables: Sauté the vegetables for 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften.
  7. Add Cabbage: Add shredded cabbage to the pan and continue to stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until cabbage is tender-crisp.
  8. Combine & Add Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the vegetables.
  9. Add Sauces: Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil, mixing thoroughly to evenly coat all ingredients.
  10. Final Stir-Fry: Stir-fry everything together for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the dish to heat through.
  11. Serve: Serve the stir-fry hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  12. Optional Garnish: Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • Use sesame oil instead of butter for a more authentic Chinese flavor.
  • Red pepper flakes are optional and can be omitted or adjusted based on your heat preference.
  • Ensure the chicken is cut into uniform pieces for even cooking.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and oyster sauce.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp texture of the vegetables and tender chicken.
