Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 large Granny Smith apples
- Lemon juice, for brushing to prevent browning
Toppings
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- Flaky sea salt for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds. Remove any seeds from each slice. Lightly brush each slice with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Melt the chocolate: Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips and oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth without lumps.
- Assemble the slices: Drizzle or spread the melted chocolate evenly over each apple slice. Next, drizzle the caramel sauce over the chocolate layer. Immediately sprinkle the chopped pecans on top to ensure they stick to the soft caramel.
- Add final touch and chill: Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt over each slice to enhance flavor. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill the apple slices for 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate sets and toppings are firm.
- Serve: Once set, serve the Chocolate Turtle Apple Slices chilled or at room temperature for a delicious, easy-to-eat treat.
Notes
- Granny Smith apples are ideal because their tartness balances the sweetness of the toppings.
- Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor, or white chocolate for variation.
- Best enjoyed the same day they’re made to maintain crispness.
