Frosting Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup heat-treated all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Cream Butter and Brown Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add Remaining Wet Ingredients: Add the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Incorporate Heat-Treated Flour: Stir in the heat-treated flour to ensure safety when eating raw, mixing until the flour is fully incorporated into the frosting.
- Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips to evenly distribute them throughout the frosting.
- Use or Store: Use the frosting immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, brownies, or cookies, or refrigerate until ready to use. Bring to room temperature before applying if chilled.
Notes
- To heat-treat flour, spread it on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes, then let cool completely before using.
- For a smoother frosting texture, omit the chocolate chips or use finely chopped chocolate pieces.
- This frosting can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Allow refrigerated frosting to come to room temperature and stir gently before use for optimal spreadability.
