Description

These Crispy Cheeseburger Egg Rolls combine all the flavors of a classic cheeseburger wrapped in a crispy, golden egg roll wrapper. Perfect as a fun appetizer or snack, they feature seasoned ground beef, onions, melted cheddar cheese, tangy pickles, ketchup, and mustard all fried to perfection for a crunchy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup pickles, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Wrapping and Frying

  • 8 egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 cups or enough for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. Cook the filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onions together until the beef is fully browned and the onions are softened. Once cooked, drain off any excess fat.
  2. Mix the filling ingredients: Remove the skillet from heat then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, finely chopped pickles, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until everything is well combined and the cheese starts to melt slightly from the residual heat.
  3. Prepare the egg roll wrappers: Place one egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface with one corner pointing towards you. Spoon about 2 to 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture near the corner closest to you.
  4. Roll the egg rolls: Fold in the two side corners over the filling, then roll the wrapper tightly away from you, sealing the edge with a little water to keep it closed securely. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat oil for frying: In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) ensuring there is enough oil for the egg rolls to float and fry evenly.
  6. Fry the egg rolls: Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil in batches, frying them for 3 to 4 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Turn as needed for even cooking.
  7. Drain and serve: Remove the fried egg rolls with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overfill the egg rolls to prevent bursting during frying.
  • You can customize the filling by adding cooked bacon or swapping cheddar for American cheese for a different flavor.
  • Use fresh egg roll wrappers and keep unused wrappers covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  • Maintain the oil temperature to ensure crispy, non-greasy egg rolls.
  • Leftover cooked filling can be refrigerated and used within 2 days.
