Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound beef stew meat or sirloin, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Noodles and Thickening
- 12 ounces egg noodles
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
Garnish
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Season the beef with salt and pepper, then add it to the pan and brown on all sides, about 5–7 minutes, to develop rich flavor.
- Sauté the vegetables: Add the chopped onion to the pan and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release its aroma.
- Simmer the beef: Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, and paprika. Bring the mixture to a simmer, cover the pot, and cook on low heat for 30–40 minutes until the beef becomes tender and flavorful.
- Cook the noodles: Add the egg noodles directly into the pot. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes until the noodles are tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed by the dish.
- Thicken the sauce (optional): If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking.
- Adjust seasoning and serve: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired, for an added burst of freshness.
Notes
- For extra richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream or a dollop of sour cream just before serving to create a creamier sauce.
- Leftovers reheat well and can be stored safely in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To speed up cooking, you can substitute ground beef for stew meat, though texture will differ.
