Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 1 tub (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed
- 1 bag (12 oz) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
Optional Coating and Toppings
- 1 bag (10–12 oz) candy melts or white chocolate chips (optional for coating)
- Sprinkles or crushed nuts (optional for topping)
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside to prevent sticking during freezing.
- Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Allow the melted chocolate to cool for 2–3 minutes to avoid melting the Cool Whip when combined.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, gently fold the thawed Cool Whip into the slightly cooled melted chocolate until fully combined. The mixture should be fluffy and thick.
- Spread Mixture: Evenly spread the chocolate-Cool Whip mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, smoothing the top for uniform thickness.
- Freeze Base Candy: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 1 hour or until the mixture is firm enough to cut or scoop.
- Shape Candy: Once firm, cut into squares or use a small cookie scoop to form balls according to preference.
- Optional Coating: If desired, dip each piece into melted candy melts or white chocolate coating, then top with sprinkles or crushed nuts for added texture and decoration.
- Set Coating: Return the coated candies to the freezer for 15–20 minutes to allow the coating to set properly.
- Storage: Store the finished candies in the freezer until ready to serve to maintain texture and freshness.
Notes
- Enhance flavor by adding a few drops of peppermint, orange, or almond extract to the melted chocolate before combining with Cool Whip.
- Make the candy festive by sprinkling colored sprinkles on top before the coating sets.
