Description

This Garlic Butter Baked Brie in a Bread Bowl is a decadent and crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring creamy melted brie infused with garlic butter, baked within a rustic sourdough bread bowl. Perfect for parties or holidays, it’s served warm with chunks of bread or crackers for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 round sourdough bread loaf (about 8 inches)
  • 1 wheel of brie cheese (8 oz)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: extra bread or crackers for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread Bowl: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the top off the sourdough bread loaf and carefully hollow out the center, leaving about 1 inch of bread around the edges to form a sturdy bowl.
  2. Prepare the Brie: Remove the top rind from the wheel of brie cheese and place the cheese inside the hollowed bread bowl, fitting snugly.
  3. Make the Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Stir in chopped fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add Garlic Butter to Brie: Pour the garlic butter mixture evenly over the brie filling inside the bread bowl, ensuring it coats the cheese well.
  5. Bake the Assembly: Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and cover loosely with aluminum foil. Bake for 20 minutes to allow the brie to start melting.
  6. Finish Baking Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until the brie is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately, using the hollowed-out bread chunks or additional crackers for dipping into the warm, melted brie.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes or chopped fresh rosemary on top before baking.
  • This appetizer is best served hot right out of the oven for optimal creaminess.
  • Use a sturdy sourdough loaf to ensure the bread bowl holds its shape during baking.
  • Can be paired with fresh fruit like grapes or sliced apples for added contrast.
