Ingredients
Scale
Jalapeno Popper Filling
- 6 large jalapenos, halved and seeds removed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Dough & Decoration
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Candy googly eyes (or small pieces of black olives)
Instructions
- Prepare the jalapenos: Wash the jalapenos, slice them in half lengthwise, and carefully remove the seeds and membranes to reduce heat. Set aside.
- Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth and fully incorporated.
- Fill the jalapeno halves: Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeno half, filling them generously.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready when you assemble the mummies.
- Prepare the crescent dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide, which will be used to wrap the jalapenos.
- Wrap the jalapenos: Take the filled jalapeno halves and wrap each one with the crescent dough strips, leaving some gaps to resemble mummy bandages. Make sure the cheese filling is covered but allow some exposure for the mummy effect.
- Apply egg wash: Brush the wrapped jalapenos with the beaten egg to give the dough a golden and shiny finish when baked.
- Bake: Place the wrapped jalapeno mummies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
- Add eyes: Remove the mummies from the oven and while still warm, press candy googly eyes or small pieces of black olives onto the dough strips to create eyes.
- Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. These Jalapeno Popper Mummies are best enjoyed warm as a festive Halloween treat.
Notes
- For less heat, remove all seeds and membranes from the jalapenos carefully.
- Substitute Monterey Jack cheese with cheddar or pepper jack for a different flavor.
- If candy googly eyes are not available, small pieces of black olive or edible markers can be used to create eyes.
- Use parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat before serving.
