Description

Delicious Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls combine all the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with the crispy, golden goodness of fried egg rolls. Filled with sautéed onions, green bell peppers, thinly sliced ribeye steak, and melted provolone cheese, these appetizers are perfect for game day, parties, or anytime you want a savory, handheld treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak or deli roast beef, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese

Wraps & Frying

  • 10 egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and green bell pepper and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  2. Cook the Steak: Add the chopped thinly sliced ribeye steak (or deli roast beef) to the skillet with the vegetables. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the steak is heated through. Season the mixture with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, salt, and black pepper according to taste.
  3. Add Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat, then stir in 1 cup of shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese until the cheese melts and the mixture is evenly combined.
  4. Assemble Egg Rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface with a corner pointed toward you. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the cheesesteak filling onto the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides tightly. Roll up the wrapper firmly and seal the edge by brushing a little water to adhere the wrapper closed. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat Oil: In a deep pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying. Use a thermometer to maintain correct temperature for even cooking.
  6. Fry Egg Rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches for 3-4 minutes each, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried egg rolls with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces such as ketchup, cheese sauce, or spicy mayo.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone cheese with white American cheese or Cheez Whiz to achieve a more traditional Philly cheesesteak flavor.
  • For a lighter version, bake the egg rolls in a preheated oven at 400°F (205°C) for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through until crispy and golden.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, cheese sauce, or spicy mayo to enhance flavor.
