Ingredients
Scale
Lasagna Noodles
- 12 San Giorgio Lasagna noodles
Meat Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 26 ounces pasta sauce (preferably marinara)
Cheese Mixture
- 32 ounces ricotta cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the lasagna later.
- Cook the Noodles: Boil the San Giorgio lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking; set aside.
- Prepare Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic until the meat is fully browned and crumbled, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add Sauce to Meat: Stir the pasta sauce into the cooked meat mixture to combine flavors thoroughly.
- Mix Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, blend ricotta cheese with beaten eggs, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
- First Layer Assembly: Spread one-third of the meat sauce evenly on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 4 noodles over the sauce, then half the ricotta mixture, followed by 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Second Layer Assembly: Add another one-third of the meat sauce over the cheese, layer the remaining noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, and another cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Final Layer Assembly: Place the last set of noodles on top, cover with the remaining meat sauce, then sprinkle with the leftover mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake: Place the assembled lasagna in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the dish is bubbling and the top is golden brown.
- Rest and Serve: Allow the lasagna to cool and set for 15 minutes before slicing and serving for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use San Giorgio brand noodles for authentic taste and texture.
- Drain excess fat from the cooked meat to prevent the lasagna from being greasy.
- Allowing the lasagna to rest before slicing helps it hold its shape better.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for variation.
- Fresh parsley adds brightness but can be substituted with dried parsley if needed.
- Check noodle packaging for specific cooking times as they may vary slightly.
