Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 4 large russet potatoes (or your favorite type of potato), cut into fries
Oils & Sauces
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
Flavoring
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chili paste or sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional for a touch of sweetness)
- Salt, to taste
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
Garnishes
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted, for garnish)
- 1-2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for baking the fries evenly.
- Cut Potatoes: Cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries to ensure uniform cooking.
- Toss Fries: Place the cut fries in a large bowl. Toss them with olive oil, salt, and a little pepper to coat evenly.
- Bake Fries: Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they become golden and crispy on the outside.
- Prepare Sauce: While the fries bake, mix sesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, chili paste or sriracha, and honey (if using) in a small bowl to create the spicy garlic sauce.
- Toss in Sauce: Once fries are done, remove from oven and immediately toss them with the prepared spicy garlic sauce to coat thoroughly.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds over the fries. Add crushed red pepper flakes if you want extra heat.
- Garnish: Garnish the fries with fresh chopped cilantro for color and fresh flavor.
- Serve: Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, spicy, and savory fries as a delicious snack or side dish.
Notes
- For crispy fries, ensure potatoes are cut evenly and spread in a single layer on the baking sheet without overcrowding.
- Adjust chili paste or sriracha according to your preferred spice level.
- Honey or maple syrup is optional but adds a nice balance to the spicy heat.
- For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- To toast sesame seeds, dry roast them in a skillet over medium heat until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
