Description

Delight in these easy-to-make Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel, combining the rich flavors of toasted pecans, gooey caramel, and smooth melted chocolate. Perfect for a quick dessert or festive treat, these bite-sized candies come together in just 20 minutes and offer a luscious balance of sweet and nutty goodness.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Candies

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 4 ounces pecan halves
  • 24 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

For the Chocolate Topping

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon shortening

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and coat it lightly with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange pecans and caramels: On the prepared cookie sheet, place 3 pecan halves in a Y shape. Center one unwrapped caramel candy in the middle of each Y. Repeat this process until all pecans and caramels are arranged.
  3. Bake the candies: Place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 8 to 10 minutes, or just until the caramel melts. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  4. Melt the chocolate: While the candies bake, combine the semisweet chocolate chips and shortening in a saucepan over low heat. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  5. Top and chill: Remove the cookie sheet from the oven, spoon the melted chocolate over each caramel and pecan cluster. Transfer the tray to the refrigerator and chill until the chocolate is set, approximately 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Make sure to use fresh pecan halves for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you prefer, you can substitute chocolate chips with chopped chocolate for a richer taste.
  • Store the candies in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them firm and fresh.
  • You can double the recipe easily to make more servings for larger gatherings.
